Snow

I'm sure every blogger from Minnesota will mention this today, but the snow coming down right now is ridiculous. It's coming down so fast that I can barely see the house across the street, and even though it started an hour ago, I've gone out and shoveled at least 3 inches of it. And by the time I was done, there was enough by the door to shovel again.

It's beautiful and horrifying at the same time. Yesterday was 40 degrees, so of course, under all that fluffy stuff is slick, invisible, and totally smooth black ice. I'm seeing cars slide by on the road silently, and I can't look to see how they're going to stop. I've sprinkled my steps liberally with salt, but I still worry for my mailman.

1 hour down, 11 more to go.

Giant potato cherries

There is a planter on the corner of the street by our house. Last summer, there were cherry tomatoes growing in it, but of course, there's been nothing but dead leaves in it for the last 4 months at least. Yesterday we were walking by, and Ruby says, "Potato cherries all gone." I didn't even know she knew there were cherry tomatoes growing there.

Speaking of mispronunciations, today she made a request to watch a "Be Nice to Giants" video. I guess she can't make much sense of "They Might be Giants".

...said Ruby

Ruby had a bunch of animals propped up on a fake stump that I have by the door. She was sing songing stuff expressively in a very high pitch and this is what I heard:

"Please please please, draw something!" said the duck. Let's squash the duck! "Sure sure sure!" said the frog. "Sure sure sure! Sure sure sure!"

Gems from the Porcelain Throne

Jonner: Once there was a badger.
Ruby: Named Baby Elephant.
Me: Oh really? That's confusing.
Ruby: A baby badger named Elephant.
Me: Oh.
(Jonner and I laugh our heads off)
Ruby: Baby badger named Elephant! (Repeat 8 times)

Lived and...

Ruby was on the potty and she asked me for a story. I said, "Once upon a time, there was a..." and she said, "cat."

"A cat! This cat lived..."
"lived and CRIED."
"Oh really? But where did she live?"
"Lived and SCREAMED."
"Ok, but where did she live?"
"AAaahhh!"

Blah Blah Blah

Ruby keeps up a monologue all day long. If I listen carefully, I get to hear some really funny stuff. Today, she was muttering, "You are perfect... you are gross."
