More wacky dreams

I know I know, nobody gives a flying F about my dreams, but I can't resist. I was making a show about a white handed gibbon and Michael Sommers was helping me out. And then he turned into Kyle McLachlan (aka Agent Cooper). Yeah. It was kind of nice to see Kyle McLachlan make it into my dreams. I've had a crush on him since I saw Twin Peaks.

Another one: I was visiting my hillbilly relatives out in the woods and I had my second baby. I left her at the hospital and was eating this giant barbecued meal with everyone, and realized that I needed to feed the new baby. So I went back to the hospital and was trying to feed Ruby and her new little sibling at the same time, but they kept drowning in the milk. I could see their little nostrils emerge occasionally, but they would inevitably sink in again. (yeah, don't ask me details-- it don't make sense to me neither)

Ruby is making it over her first cold. It was pretty mild, but two nights ago she got really stuffed up and woke up screaming a lot. She would try to suck her thumb, but as soon as she closed her mouth, she couldn't breathe and boy did that make her mad. I was tired and sad that she was so upset, but I couldn't help chuckling a little when she kept trying to suck that thumb. *Snort* Foiled again!

She's slowly starting to move a little. She can spin around on her belly, and if she wiggles for a while, she can scoot backwards about a foot before she gets mad. She still hasn't learned that she can't rub her face on the floor without it hurting. On the bed, she has a habit of banging her face on the sheets and rubbing back and forth, and she occasionally tries it on the hardwood floor. She bangs her nose or mouth or forehead on the floor and starts wailing. I guess it'll take a couple more times before she learns. Sigh.

Gold star day

Well, due to an unexpected, very long nap, I am pleasantly amusing myself on the computer. Mainly spending tons of time on the mothering.com discussion boards.

Ruby is almost certainly teething lately. She bites and chews voraciously, drools, and whines almost non-stop. Sometimes she even laugh-whines, which sounds very bizarre. Basically, she does everything she normally does, except there's a whine-drone that goes on top of it all. Sometimes it's a little tiring, but surprisingly, when it's your own kid, even whines can be kinda cute.

Despite the hot muggy weather and a needy little babe riding on my back, I got a surprising amount of housework done. I swept and mopped (the mopping was probably about 6 months overdue. I know, gross), and did dishes. I went through Ruby's clothes and weeded out the too-small ones and the occasional uggo hand-me-downs and pulled out ones that will fit her now. I brushed Rimsky and pulled out a big old handful of creamy hair that was about to jump out onto my newly cleaned floor. I even made myself some eggs and had a little lunch while Ruby fell asleep on my back.

Give me that BIG GOLD STAR!

Bailey's Return

Bailey's back to beloved pet status, thanks to Ruby. She has taken a shine to the dog, and will laugh and scream when she sees Bailey. It makes her so happy, that we keep calling Bailey to come and entertain her. Ruby reaches her hands out and Bailey licks and nibbles them. It's a great thing--both of them participate with equally great glee and gusto. I just have to control the number of times Bailey tries to lick out the inside of Ruby's mouth.

Fillings

I've never had a cavity before, so when I went in for a filling today, I didn't know what to expect. I wasn't expecting to be numbed. Well, I am. My tongue feels like a large slug that keeps getting in between my teeth, and my mouth feels soft and rubbery. And now I have a shiny silver filling that winks at me when I open my mouth real big at the mirror.

I also have a challenge for you all. On the ceiling of the dentist's office, there are words to unscramble. I know, clever way to get our minds off the instruments of torture sitting next to us. And despite two visits, there is one I can't seem to get (I suck at unscrambling words, so no surprise there). It's a state capitol, and it's POYLIAM. No clue. Help please.

New Sounds

Ruby's starting to be silly on purpose. What's particularly interesting to me is that she seems to do this blowing through the lips thing when she's whiny and grumpy. It usually makes her stop whining and smile temporarily. Maybe she's trying to put herself in a better mood. What an easy baby.

Unexpected Company

Karen and Tom unexpectedly dropped by last night, and we had a ball playing wii, hanging out with the baby, and chatting it up with the neighbor kids outside. Ruby was totally overstimulated, but had a great time bouncing up and down on Karen's lap.

July 4 road trip

So Jonner took the week off and we took off with the baby to Iowa to visit the inlaws. His sister with her 4 girls were up and we got a front-seat preview of all the stages of childhood that Ruby is facing. 1, 3, 6, and 8 years old.

She was fantastic-- slept 10-12 hours at night, beamed at everyone during the day, and rolled onto her stomach like a champion by the end of the visit. She was like a rolling robot. You hit "on" (that's her soft spot) and put her down on the ground, and she'd roll over.

Claire, her 6 year old cousin, took a special shine to Ruby. She was Ruby's constant entertainment, dancing madly with her two little bug toys, singing "pip 'n pop, pip 'n pop", or rubbing her face in Ruby's tummy. Ruby ate it up, giggling and laughing.
