Another road trip, another stupid injury

We're off to Sioux Center for Thanksgiving again!

Yesterday I got the tip of my finger in the doorway as I slammed the door on it. I nearly took the whole pad of my finger off. It was hanging like a gruesome chad. (That's what they're called, right?) I thought I might need stitches, but they just derma-bonded it. The thing that really surprised me was how nauseous I felt after it happened. I saw all the blood and I quick held it above my head with a tissue around it and walked around the house panicked. Then I called Jonner and as I was talking to him, everything swam and turned black and I thought I was going to puke. I was nauseous for a good half hour, and I lay on the floor while Ruby whined and climbed on my legs. Am I developing a weak stomach for gore and pain? I don't know.

Much too optimistic

That last post was much too optimistic. While she did improve briefly, I got horribly sick, and then when I started getting better, she got sick again, and now I'm trying desperately not to get sick while she rubs snot into my face for the 5th (?) day in a row. Right now, I also have another clogged duct, and I'm feeling like we're just going to have to deal with being sick as the norm and being healthy as a just a blessed but fleeting break.

Finally

For 4 days our household was kind of on emergency standby. Ruby had teething issues and a nasty bug, which kept her awake and screaming much of the past week (night and day).

It's funny how standards change when you've got a sick, irritable baby. The dishes and laundry were the first to go. Then it was showers and teeth brushing. Then it was pottying and cloth diapers (you can get away with changing disposables a lot less, and considering how much she would scream during changes, I decided even one less change was a great thing). And I expected no naps and screaming wakings every half hour at night. On a normal night, I was distressed if she happened to go to bed after 7:30 or wake before midnight. This week I was ecstatic if she went to sleep at all, and if she stayed asleep for longer than 15 minutes.

Anyway, the good news is, she's getting better! Last night, there were a few wakings, but no wailings, and she's down for a morning nap already. Mmmmm.
